Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pollinex Quattro Ragweed (also known as Ragweed MATA MPL) is an ultra-short course subcutaneous immunotherapy developed by Allergy Therapeutics for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis caused by ragweed pollen. The vaccine consists of a ragweed pollen extract that has been chemically modified with glutaraldehyde to create an allergoid, which reduces IgE-mediated reactivity while maintaining immunogenicity. This allergoid is adsorbed onto L-tyrosine and combined with the immunostimulatory adjuvant monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL). MPL acts as a Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist, facilitating a shift from a Th2-mediated allergic response to a Th1-mediated protective response. The treatment is designed as a pre-seasonal course requiring only four injections, offering a more convenient dosing schedule than traditional allergy vaccines. It has completed Phase III clinical trials and is available in certain European markets on a named patient basis.
