Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pollinex Quattro Ragweed is an ultra-short-course allergy vaccine developed by Allergy Therapeutics for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis caused by ragweed pollen. It consists of a ragweed pollen extract that has been chemically modified with glutaraldehyde to form an allergoid, which reduces its allergenicity while maintaining its ability to stimulate the immune system. The allergoid is adsorbed onto L-tyrosine, which serves as a slow-release depot, and is combined with the immunostimulatory adjuvant monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL). MPL is a Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist that helps direct the immune response toward a Th1 profile, potentially leading to long-term desensitization. The treatment is administered as a series of four subcutaneous injections given before the start of the ragweed pollen season.
