Overview
Polvac is an allergen immunotherapy (AIT) product used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. It consists of grass and tree pollen allergen extracts formulated with microcrystalline tyrosine (MCT) as an adjuvant. MCT is a biodegradable adjuvant that provides a depot effect, allowing for a prolonged release of allergens and enhancing the immune response while potentially reducing the risk of systemic allergic reactions compared to traditional aluminum-based adjuvants. The drug is typically administered via subcutaneous injection to desensitize the patient's immune system to specific allergens, shifting the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a Th1/Treg-mediated protective profile.
