Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Poly SFH-P is a polymerized human hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier developed as a blood substitute. It is designed to load and unload oxygen in the absence of red blood cells, thereby maintaining total hemoglobin levels after acute blood loss and reducing the need for allogeneic transfusions. The drug has been shown to preserve mitochondrial integrity in transplanted tissues and improve outcomes such as glucose tolerance and time to normoglycemia in preclinical models. Clinical trials have demonstrated its safety profile in healthy volunteers and patients with acute blood loss, with no significant increase in oxidative stress or injury observed[1][2].
