Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Poly-Vent is a brand name for a line of combination oral medications developed and marketed by Poly Pharmaceuticals (also known as Poly Pharmaceutics) for the symptomatic relief of upper respiratory conditions. The product line includes multiple formulations: Poly-Vent IR, which contains the expectorant guaifenesin and the nasal decongestant pseudoephedrine HCl; and Poly-Vent DM, which adds the cough suppressant dextromethorphan HBr. These small molecule drugs work through multiple mechanisms: pseudoephedrine acts as a sympathomimetic agent on alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors to reduce nasal congestion, guaifenesin helps loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretions to facilitate chest congestion relief, and dextromethorphan suppresses the cough reflex. These medications are FDA-approved and indicated for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with the common cold, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), and other upper respiratory allergies, including nasal congestion, cough, and chest congestion.
