Polycap

Polycap is a fixed-dose combination (polypill) developed for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. It typically contains four or five active ingredients designed to address multiple risk factors simultaneously, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and platelet aggregation. The standard formulation evaluated in the International Polycap Study 3 (TIPS-3) consists of simvastatin (40 mg), atenolol (100 mg), ramipril (10 mg), and hydrochlorothiazide (25 mg). Some versions, often referred to as Quintapill, also incorporate an antiplatelet agent such as aspirin. The drug is manufactured by Cadila Pharmaceuticals and has been extensively studied in large-scale clinical trials, including TIPS-3 and the SMAART trials, to evaluate its efficacy in reducing major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and improving patient adherence in both high-resource and under-resourced settings.
