Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Polycarbophil vaginal moisturizer is a non-hormonal treatment option for vaginal dryness that works by adhering to the vaginal mucosa and promoting hydration. The polycarbophil component acts as a bioadhesive that promotes intracellular water absorption and helps lower vaginal pH, creating a healthier vaginal environment. Based on clinical evidence, it is non-inferior to hyaluronic acid gel in treating vaginal dryness symptoms. It is generally considered safe with minimal side effects, although some irritation has been reported, including in male partners during intercourse. Polycarbophil vaginal moisturizers typically come in gel form and are applied using an applicator or finger, usually 1-3 times per week, with each application lasting up to 3 days. They do not provide contraception or protection from sexually transmitted diseases.
