Overview

Polyclonal sera to VEGF is a biological preparation consisting of a heterogeneous mixture of antibodies derived from the serum of an animal (such as a rabbit or goat) immunized with Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). This polyclonal approach allows for the targeting of multiple epitopes on the VEGF protein, effectively neutralizing its biological activity and inhibiting the pro-angiogenic signaling pathways essential for tumor vascularization. In preclinical neuro-oncology research, these sera are utilized in syngeneic mouse models, such as SB28 and GL261, to evaluate the efficacy of VEGF inhibition and to investigate mechanisms of therapeutic resistance in glioblastoma. Recent findings indicate that while polyclonal sera to VEGF may show limited efficacy as a monotherapy in resistant glioblastoma models, its combination with novel agents targeting biomarkers like Epithelial Membrane Protein-2 (EMP2) can significantly reduce tumor volume and weight.
