Polycrol is a brand of gastrointestinal medications marketed primarily in India by Piramal Enterprises. The brand encompasses two distinct types of pharmacological treatments. The most prevalent form is a combination antacid and antiflatulent available as an oral gel or tablet, containing aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone (or dimethicone). These ingredients work by neutralizing gastric acid and reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles to alleviate heartburn, indigestion, and bloating. Additionally, the brand includes Polycrol 40 MG, which contains pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor that irreversibly inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells to suppress acid production for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcers.
