Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) is a biologic tissue regeneration activator composed of a mixture of low-molecular-weight deoxyribonucleotide polymers, typically ranging from 50 to 2000 base pairs in length. Derived primarily from the sperm of salmon or trout through a high-temperature sterilization and purification process, PDRN acts as a selective agonist for the adenosine A2A receptor. This activation triggers a cascade of physiological responses, including the stimulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression and the enhancement of fibroblast activity, which promotes collagen synthesis and angiogenesis. In clinical practice, PDRN is utilized as an injectable therapy for musculoskeletal conditions such as lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), where it is often evaluated for its synergistic effects when combined with exercise and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) to reduce pain and improve functional outcomes.
