Overview

PolyEnv1 is an investigational recombinant viral vector vaccine developed by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for the prevention of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine utilizes a recombinant vaccinia virus backbone engineered to express multiple HIV-1 envelope (Env) glycoproteins, specifically gp120 and gp41, derived from various viral isolates. This polyvalent approach is designed to overcome the high genetic diversity of HIV-1 by inducing a broad spectrum of immune responses, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and the activation of HIV-specific T-cells. PolyEnv1 was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials (such as NCT00069082) to determine its safety, maximum tolerated dose, and immunogenicity in healthy, HIV-uninfected adult volunteers.
