Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aqueous Ultra is an ophthalmic lubricant solution developed by Optho Pharma for the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort caused by dry eyes. It is a combination formulation containing polyethylene glycol (0.4% w/v) and propylene glycol (0.3% w/v), which function as demulcents to mimic the natural tear film. Polyethylene glycol binds to damaged, dry areas of the cornea to form a protective barrier, while propylene glycol acts as a humectant to attract and retain moisture on the ocular surface. The formulation also contains oxychloro complex as a gentle preservative that breaks down into natural tear components upon exposure to light.
