Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PegLyte + bisacodyl is a combination bowel preparation regimen used for colon cleansing prior to colonoscopy. It consists of PegLyte (polyethylene glycol 3350 and electrolytes oral solution) and bisacodyl, a stimulant laxative. PegLyte acts as an osmotic agent to retain water in the colon, while bisacodyl induces high-amplitude propagated contractions of the colon by direct action on the intestinal mucosa and smooth muscle. This dual-action approach is marketed under the brand name Bi-PegLyte by Pendopharm. It is currently being evaluated in the Phase 3 B-CLEANR trial for patients who previously failed bowel preparation.
