Polyethylene glycol 3350 and electrolytes (PEG 3350 and electrolytes) is an osmotic laxative and bowel-cleansing preparation. It is formulated as a powder for oral solution or as a pre-mixed oral solution, containing polyethylene glycol 3350 as the active osmotic agent combined with essential electrolytes (such as sodium sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, and potassium chloride) to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance during bowel evacuation. PEG 3350 works by retaining water in the intestinal lumen through osmotic action, which softens the stool, increases stool volume, and promotes peristalsis. This combination is widely indicated for whole bowel irrigation in preparation for colonoscopy or other gastrointestinal procedures, as well as for the treatment of chronic constipation and fecal impaction, particularly in pediatric populations.
