Polyglactin 910 + triclosan is a specialized surgical suture material that combines absorbable polyglactin 910 with the antimicrobial agent triclosan. The triclosan component inhibits bacterial colonization on the suture surface by blocking the enzyme enoyl-ACP reductase (Fab I gene), which prevents the biosynthesis of bacterial fatty acids. This antimicrobial action is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria commonly associated with surgical site infections. Clinical studies have demonstrated that these sutures can significantly reduce the risk of surgical site infections compared to conventional sutures.
