Overview

Polyglycolated urate oxidase is an investigational PEGylated (polyethylene glycol-conjugated) form of the enzyme urate oxidase (uricase), currently under development by The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. As a recombinant enzyme, it catalyzes the conversion of uric acid into allantoin, a highly soluble metabolite that is readily excreted by the kidneys, thereby lowering serum urate levels. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment of hyperuricemia. The drug is undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation (NCT05226013) to determine its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity in both healthy individuals and patients with elevated uric acid.
