Overview

BELTAVAC is a subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) product consisting of polymerized allergen extracts from the house dust mites *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*. Developed by Inmunotek, the extracts are chemically modified using glutaraldehyde to form allergoids. This polymerization process reduces the allergenicity of the extract, thereby enhancing safety and allowing for higher doses, while preserving the immunogenic properties necessary to induce immune tolerance. The drug is indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and asthma in patients sensitized to house dust mites. It works by modulating the human immune system, specifically shifting the immune response away from IgE-mediated allergic reactions toward a more tolerant state, often characterized by the induction of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies.
