Overview

Polymerized Juniperus oxycedrus pollen extract is a chemically modified allergenic extract derived from the pollen of Juniperus oxycedrus that has been polymerized with glutaraldehyde to form high‑molecular‑weight allergoids with reduced IgE‑binding capacity and preserved T‑cell epitopes, aiming to improve the safety and tolerability of allergen immunotherapy for respiratory allergy to this pollen while maintaining immunogenicity for desensitization.[3][5][13] It is being developed as a specific immunotherapy product for patients with allergic rhinitis, rhinoconjunctivitis and/or asthma due to Juniperus oxycedrus pollen exposure, with clinical trials in Europe evaluating its efficacy and safety in reducing symptoms and medication use.[1][3][9][13] As an allergoid used for subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy, its mechanism is based on immune deviation and tolerance induction, including promotion of allergen‑specific IgG “blocking” antibodies and modulation of T‑cell responses away from Th2‑driven IgE production, although precise molecular targets have not been fully characterized for this specific extract.[5]
