Overview

β-1,3/1,6-D-glucan from mycelia extract of Indonesia's Ganoderma lucidum group, commonly referred to as Polysaccharide Peptide (PsP), is a botanical extract derived from the mycelium of the *Ganoderma lucidum* mushroom native to Indonesia. Developed primarily by researchers at Brawijaya University and Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital, this compound functions as an immunomodulator and antioxidant. It is characterized by its high content of β-1,3/1,6-D-glucans linked to small peptides. The therapeutic mechanism involves the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), the inhibition of oxidative stress markers like nitric oxide (potentially via nitric oxide synthase inhibition), and the modulation of immune cell activity, including T-lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells. Clinical investigations have focused on its potential as an adjuvant therapy for cardiometabolic syndrome, hypertension, obesity-related renal dysfunction, and ulcerative colitis, demonstrating cardiovascular and renal protective effects.
