Overview

NVPS are polysaccharides isolated from *Nostoc commune Vaucher*, a cyanobacterium widely consumed as a healthy food and supplement. These polysaccharides have demonstrated protective effects against colitis-associated colon tumorigenesis in mice. NVPS achieves its effects by modulating the gut microbiota, specifically reversing alterations in the abundance of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes and enriching short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing genera, which contributes to suppressed colonic inflammation and carcinogenesis.
