Overview

Polyspecific Sri Lankan antivenom is a lyophilized hyperimmune serum containing polyclonal antibodies developed by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP). It is specifically designed to neutralize the toxins from the four most medically significant venomous snakes found in Sri Lanka: *Daboia russelli* (Russell's viper), *Hypnale hypnale* (Hump-nosed pit viper), *Echis carinatus* (Saw-scaled viper), and *Naja naja* (Indian cobra). The antivenom works by binding to and neutralizing various venom components, including phospholipases A2, metalloproteinases, and neurotoxins, thereby preventing or reversing the systemic and local effects of envenomation. The product is currently in the preclinical development phase and is intended for human use in treating snakebite envenomation in the Sri Lankan region.
