Overview

Polyvalent Snake Antivenin Serum IP is a lyophilized, enzyme-refined equine immunoglobulin preparation manufactured by Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited. It is a polyvalent antivenom designed to treat snakebite envenoming caused by India's 'big four' venomous snakes: the Indian Cobra (*Naja naja*), Common Krait (*Bungarus caeruleus*), Russell's Viper (*Vipera russelli*), and Saw-scaled Viper (*Echis carinatus*). The product contains equine-derived polyclonal antibodies that provide passive immunization by binding to and neutralizing various venom components, including neurotoxins and hemotoxins, thereby preventing systemic toxicity. It is administered intravenously after reconstitution with sterile water and has been a staple of snakebite treatment in India since its initial production in 1940.
