In interventional radiology, it is employed as an embolic agent, often in the form of microspheres, for procedures such as transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) of primary liver cancer and bariatric embolization of the left gastric artery for obesity. Its mechanism in these contexts involves the physical occlusion of blood vessels. Additionally, PVA is a common ingredient in artificial tear solutions for the treatment of dry eye conditions like keratoconjunctivitis sicca, where it functions to lubricate and protect the ocular surface.
