Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PomWonderful Juice is a commercially available pomegranate juice product that has been evaluated in clinical research for its potential cardiovascular benefits. Specifically, it was studied in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT00059371) sponsored by Radiant Research to assess its ability to retard the progression of carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) in individuals with cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, and dyslipidemia. The juice is rich in polyphenolic antioxidants, particularly punicalagins and anthocyanins, which are believed to exert potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. These compounds may improve endothelial function and reduce the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, thereby potentially slowing the development of atherosclerotic plaques.
