Drug intelligence / Profile preview
POMx is a highly potent, standardized pomegranate fruit extract developed by Pom Wonderful, LLC. It is prepared from the skin and arils (minus seeds) of the pomegranate (*Punica granatum*) and is standardized to contain approximately 37% punicalagins (ellagitannins). POMx has received Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status and has been investigated for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumorigenic properties. In oncology, particularly prostate and colorectal cancers, it is thought to induce apoptosis by modulating the IGF/IGFBP axis, increasing JNK phosphorylation, and inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR and NF-kB signaling pathways. It has also been studied for its effects on cardiovascular health, including blood pressure reduction via potential ACE inhibition, and for its role in promoting satiety and managing obesity.
