Overview

Ponicidin is a diterpenoid compound isolated from the plant Rabdosia rubescens (often known as Dong Ling Cao). It has demonstrated **antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and immunoregulatory** activities in preclinical studies. Mechanistically, ponicidin is proposed to induce apoptosis in cancer cells through mitochondrial pathways, inhibit inflammatory cytokine production, and modulate immune responses. Its primary research focus has been on oncology (solid tumors including leukemia, gastric, colon, and lung cancers), and inflammatory or autoimmune diseases. Ponicidin is not approved by regulatory agencies as a pharmaceutical drug and is generally studied in vitro and in animal models.
