Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PopVax's HPV vaccine is an investigational mRNA-encoded virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine designed for the prevention of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection and associated cervical cancer. Developed by the Indian biotechnology company PopVax, the vaccine utilizes a proprietary mRNA platform to deliver genetic instructions that cause host cells to express HPV antigens. These antigens are designed to self-assemble into VLPs *in vivo*, mimicking the structure of the virus to elicit a potent immune response without the risk of infection. This approach aims to combine the rapid manufacturing advantages of mRNA technology with the high immunogenicity typically associated with VLP-based vaccines. As of early 2024, the program is in the design phase, with Phase 1 clinical trials anticipated to commence in 2028.
