Overview

PopVax is developing an mRNA-encoded virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine for the prevention of seasonal and pandemic influenza. The vaccine utilizes a proprietary mRNA architecture designed for immunogen display, delivered via a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform. Unlike traditional mRNA vaccines that encode soluble antigens, this technology directs cells to produce antigens that self-assemble into VLPs, which mimic the structural characteristics of the native influenza virus to elicit a more potent immune response. Preclinical studies in mice have demonstrated antibody responses up to 250-fold greater than those of currently approved vaccines, as well as cross-protective immunity against pandemic strains such as H5N1. The program is currently in late preclinical development, with a patch-delivered version also being advanced through funding from BARDA.
