Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shen Lian's Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) subunit vaccine is a recombinant veterinary vaccine developed for the prevention of Porcine Circovirus Disease (PCVD) in swine. The vaccine utilizes the Cap protein, which is the major structural protein and primary immunogen of PCV2, expressed using a high-efficiency *Escherichia coli* platform. These recombinant proteins self-assemble into virus-like particles (VLPs) that mimic the structure of the native virus without containing any infectious genetic material. This subunit design offers a superior safety profile and high antigenic purity compared to traditional inactivated vaccines. Developed by Shen Lian Biotech, it was the first *E. coli*-expressed PCV2 subunit vaccine to receive marketing approval in China. It is primarily indicated for the active immunization of pigs to reduce viremia, lymphoid lesions, and virus shedding associated with PCV2 infections, such as Postweaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS).
