Porcine-collagen hydrolysate is a dietary supplement produced by the enzymatic hydrolysis of collagen derived from pigs. It is composed of a mixture of bioactive peptides. While collagen hydrolysates are commonly marketed for skin, bone, and joint health, this specific porcine-derived formulation was evaluated for its effects on glucose metabolism and cardiometabolic risk markers in overweight and obese individuals. In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial (NCT05282641), daily consumption of 10g for four weeks failed to improve interstitial glucose concentrations and was associated with slight increases in glycemic variability, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR, indicating it does not significantly improve glucose metabolism in this population.
