Overview

Poricoic acid ZG is a novel **tetracyclic triterpenoid compound** isolated from the medicinal fungus *Poria cocos*[1][5]. It has been identified and characterized as a **renin-angiotensin system (RAS) inhibitor** with pronounced **anti-fibrotic effects** in preclinical models, particularly in the context of **renal fibrosis**[1][5]. Poricoic acid ZG targets multiple pathological pathways associated with fibrosis, notably by inhibiting the **Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway** and selectively blocking **Smad3 phosphorylation** via the TGF-β/Smad signaling cascade[1][5]. This leads to reduced production of extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen I and a decrease in other fibrotic markers and mediators. Poricoic acid ZG also antagonizes the activation of the RAS pathway in injured renal tissue, offering potential as a lead compound for the development of new therapies against CKD and fibrotic diseases[1][5].
