Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Porus-One is a veterinary nutritional supplement developed by Porus GmbH and distributed in the US by Dechra Veterinary Products. It is designed to support kidney health in cats, particularly those with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or chronic renal failure (CRF). The active ingredient is Renaltec, a patented, selective carbon-based spherical adsorber (a modified activated charcoal) composed of tiny, black homogenous spheres (0.1 to 0.3 mm in diameter) with a smooth surface and microscopic pores (2 nm). Porus-One works locally in the gastrointestinal tract by physically binding uremic toxin precursors (such as indole, p-cresol, and phenol) within its inner channel system, preventing their absorption and subsequent conversion in the liver into uremic toxins (like indoxyl sulfate and para-cresyl sulfate). The product is not absorbed or metabolized by the body and is excreted unchanged in the feces, thereby reducing the excretory burden on the kidneys. It is administered as a once-daily oral powder mixed with food.
