Posimir

Posimir is a novel, sustained-release formulation of bupivacaine, an amide-type local anesthetic. It is indicated for single-dose infiltration into the subacromial space under direct arthroscopic visualization to provide post-surgical analgesia for up to 72 hours following arthroscopic subacromial decompression in adults. The drug utilizes the SABER platform technology, which forms an extended-release biodegradable gel matrix at the site of administration, enabling continuous delivery of bupivacaine over three days. Bupivacaine works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on nerve cells, thereby inhibiting nerve impulse conduction and providing local anesthesia. Posimir is not interchangeable with other bupivacaine formulations and should not be used for epidural, intrathecal, intra-articular use, or regional nerve blocks[1][2][3][5][6][7].
