Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Potassium chloride + sodium acetate + magnesium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium gluconate** is a sterile, isotonic balanced multi-electrolyte solution used as an intravenous fluid replacement product and, in the Physiolyte presentation, as a sterile surgical irrigant. It supplies sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, acetate, and gluconate to restore extracellular fluid and electrolyte balance. Acetate and gluconate are metabolizable anions that consume hydrogen ions during metabolism, producing an alkalinizing effect. The composition is marketed by Baxter as Plasma-Lyte A and Plasma-Lyte 148 for intravenous administration and by B. Braun as Physiolyte for irrigation, washing, and rinsing; the Physiolyte label specifies that it is not for usual parenteral injection.
