Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MolluscuDerm is a topical cutaneous solution containing 10% potassium hydroxide, specifically formulated for the treatment of *Molluscum contagiosum*. The mechanism of action involves the chemical destruction of the skin cells infected by the molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV). As a strong alkali, potassium hydroxide dissolves the keratin and proteins of the viral lesion, leading to localized irritation and inflammation. This "chemical cauterization" breaks down the protective environment of the virus and alerts the host's immune system to the site of infection, ultimately resulting in the resolution of the papules. It is typically applied twice daily to each lesion until redness or inflammation appears, indicating that the treatment has successfully triggered the necessary immune response.
