Overview

Potassium phosphates (a combination of dibasic potassium phosphate and monobasic potassium phosphate) is an inorganic salt solution used as a phosphorus replacement therapy. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypophosphatemia in adult and pediatric patients weighing 40 kg or more when oral or enteral replacement is not possible, insufficient, or contraindicated. As an intravenous electrolyte replenisher, it provides phosphate ions essential for various metabolic and enzymatic reactions, including the formation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), calcium homeostasis, and acid-base buffering. It also serves as a source of potassium ions, which are critical for nerve conduction and muscle contraction.
