Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Potato extract is a preparation made from the tuber of *Solanum tuberosum* and includes a variety of fractions, most notably standardized forms such as Slendesta, which contains 5% proteinase inhibitor II (PPI II)[1]. Its most researched mechanism is appetite suppression via stimulation of cholecystokinin (CCK) release, leading to delayed gastric emptying and enhanced satiety in humans and experimental animals. Preclinical studies suggest anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects in mouse models associated with weight and fat reduction, normalization of food consumption, and improvements in metabolic parameters[1]. Broader potato extracts and potato peel extracts also display anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, as well as uses in food, cosmetic, and industrial applications[2][4][5].
