PoultrySulfa

PoultrySulfa is an FDA-approved veterinary antibiotic combination consisting of three sulfonamides: sulfamerazine, sulfamethazine, and sulfaquinoxaline. Developed by Huvepharma (and previously marketed by Alpharma), it is formulated as a water-soluble powder for administration via drinking water to chickens and turkeys. It is indicated for the control of coccidiosis caused by *Eimeria* species (such as *E. meleagrimitis* and *E. adenoeides*) and acute fowl cholera caused by *Pasteurella multocida*. As a sulfonamide combination, it works by inhibiting bacterial and protozoal dihydropteroate synthase, thereby blocking the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid and interfering with nucleic acid production. It is the only triple-sulfa veterinary product approved by the FDA in the United States.
