Overview

Pouteria ramiflora extract is a plant-derived extract obtained from the leaves, stem bark, or root bark of *Pouteria ramiflora* (Mart.) Radlk., a tree in the Sapotaceae family native to Brazil and commonly known as "curriola." It is traditionally used in Brazilian folk medicine for treatment of worm infections, dysentery, pain, inflammation, hyperlipidemia, and obesity. The extract contains high levels of flavonoids (notably myricetin glycosides), phenolic compounds, tannins, triterpenes, anthraquinones, coumarins, and other secondary metabolites[1][2][3]. Research indicates it can inhibit alpha-amylase *in vitro* and reduce blood glucose in animal models, suggesting utility in glycemic control. It also has demonstrated mild cytotoxicity in tumor cell lines, antioxidant properties, and potential chemopreventive and antimutagenic actions, likely due to its content of myricetin, gallic acid, and anthraquinones[1][2][3][5]. Its safety in humans has not been fully established[1].
