Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pouxit is an over-the-counter (OTC) anti-lice treatment line developed and marketed by Coopération Pharmaceutique Française (Cooper). Launched in 2006, the product line is indicated for the treatment of head lice (*Pediculus humanus capitis*) and nits in adults and children over 6 months of age. Unlike traditional pediculicides that rely on neurotoxic insecticides, Pouxit utilizes a physical mechanism of action, primarily employing dimethicone to coat and suffocate the parasites and their eggs. This non-chemical approach prevents the development of resistance and is gentler on the scalp. The brand offers several specialized formulations, including Pouxit Flash, which acts in 5 minutes, and Pouxit XF (Extra Fort), which is designed for enhanced efficacy. In many European jurisdictions, including France, Pouxit products are regulated as medical devices.
