Drug intelligence / Profile preview
1% Betadine PVP-I based mouth wash and gargle is an antiseptic oral rinse product developed by Mundipharma. Its active ingredient is povidone-iodine (PVP-I) at a 1% w/v concentration, which is widely recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, targeting bacteria, fungi, viruses, spores, yeasts, and protozoa in the oral cavity. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of oral and pharyngeal infections, gingivitis, canker sores, sore throat, mouth irritations, and oral ulcers, and is also used as a prophylactic agent during and after dental surgeries. The product has been evaluated in clinical trials, including a Phase 4 study (NCT03141554) assessing its effects on the oral microbiome in healthy volunteers.
