Overview
PP001 is a generic sterile injectable proton pump inhibitor (PPI) being developed by Plano Pharmaceuticals. It is part of a pipeline focused on providing essential injectable medications to the North American market, particularly those prone to drug shortages. As a PPI, PP001 functions by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system, also known as the gastric proton pump, located in the parietal cells of the stomach. This inhibition effectively reduces the secretion of gastric acid, making it a standard treatment for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and other acid-related gastrointestinal disorders.
