PP1131 bacteriophage cocktail is a biologic therapeutic consisting of 12 natural lytic bacteriophages specifically targeting *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. Developed by Pherecydes Pharma (now Phaxiam Therapeutics), it was designed for the topical treatment of infected burn wounds. The mechanism of action involves the phages' ability to recognize and bind to specific receptors on the surface of *P. aeruginosa*, inject their genetic material, and replicate within the host cell, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death. This process involves the disruption of the bacterial cell wall and membrane. PP1131 was the subject of the PHAGOBURN trial (NCT02116010), a Phase I/II multicenter study that represented one of the first international randomized controlled trials of phage therapy conducted under modern regulatory standards.
