Overview

PP405 is a novel, non-invasive, topical small molecule drug developed for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss). It is designed to reactivate dormant hair follicle stem cells and restart hair growth by inhibiting the mitochondrial pyruvate carrier (MPC), specifically targeting MPC1 and MPC2. This inhibition shifts cellular metabolism within the follicle stem cells, stimulating L-lactate dehydrogenase activity and activating previously dormant stem cells to initiate a new hair growth cycle. The drug has demonstrated safety, tolerability, and proof of mechanism in Phase 1 clinical trials with no systemic absorption detected. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2a randomized, placebo-controlled trial for both men and women with androgenetic alopecia[2][3][5][6][7][8].
