pPJV7630 is a therapeutic DNA vaccine candidate originally developed by PowderMed for the treatment of recurrent genital herpes caused by Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 (HSV-2). The vaccine consists of DNA plasmids encoding HSV-2 antigens, designed to be delivered into the epidermal layer of the skin using the proprietary PowderJect needle-free delivery system. This method involves accelerating DNA-coated gold microparticles into the skin to stimulate a robust T-cell mediated immune response. Following Pfizer's acquisition of PowderMed in 2006, the candidate underwent Phase I clinical evaluation (NCT00351156) to assess safety and immunogenicity, but development was subsequently discontinued.
