Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PPP005 is a medical cannabis oil formulation developed by Santé Cannabis (formerly Tetra Bio-Pharma) for the management of chronic pain, including both cancer-related and chronic non-cancer pain. This specific formulation is characterized by a high concentration of cannabidiol (CBD) with only trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), delivered as an encapsulated oil designed to meet pharmaceutical standards. The drug acts through the endocannabinoid system and other pain-related pathways; CBD serves as a negative allosteric modulator of CB1 and CB2 receptors and an agonist at TRPV1 and 5-HT1A receptors, providing analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anxiolytic effects. The trace THC component provides synergistic therapeutic benefits with minimal psychoactive impact. PPP005 was evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to assess its safety, efficacy, and potential as an opioid-sparing treatment for patients whose pain was inadequately controlled by conventional prescriptions.
