Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PR-4 is a topical nanoemulsion formulation of estradiol developed by Puripharm for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. Estradiol is a naturally occurring estrogen that acts as a potent agonist of the estrogen receptors (ERα and ERβ). By binding to these receptors, it helps to supplement declining estrogen levels in menopausal women, thereby alleviating symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. The nanoemulsion technology is designed to enhance the skin penetration and bioavailability of estradiol, potentially allowing for lower dosing and improved safety compared to traditional topical gels or oral formulations.
