Overview

**PR509** is a hypoxia-activated prodrug designed as a 'stealth' anticancer agent that remains inactive until activated in low-oxygen (hypoxic) tumor environments. It functions as an irreversible pan-ERBB inhibitor, targeting NSCLC resistant to reversible tyrosine kinase inhibitors like erlotinib, with potential activity in other solid tumors. Developed by researchers at the University of Auckland's Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre and Maurice Wilkins Centre, it was licensed to Proacta Incorporated and partnered with Yakult Honsha for clinical development in non-small cell lung cancer.[1][9][11][14]
