PR81 is a murine monoclonal antibody that specifically targets the MUC1 antigen, a protein frequently overexpressed in breast cancer cells. This antibody has been extensively studied for its application in the diagnosis and treatment of MUC1-positive breast cancer. It is commonly utilized as a component of radioimmunoconjugates, where it is labeled with various radioisotopes such as Indium-111, Copper-64, Lutetium-177, and Iodine-131, often through chelators like DOTA, DTPA, or HYNIC. These radiolabeled forms are developed for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, as well as for radioimmunotherapy. Additionally, PR81 has been explored for targeted drug delivery, by conjugating it to nanoparticles loaded with chemotherapeutic agents like 5-fluorouracil, to enhance specificity towards breast cancer cells.
