Overview
Pramipexole dihydrochloride extended-release is a non-ergoline dopamine agonist developed by Haisco Pharmaceutical Group as a generic version of Mirapex ER. It is indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson's disease. The drug functions by stimulating dopamine receptors in the striatum, exhibiting high relative in vitro specificity and full intrinsic activity at the D2 subfamily of dopamine receptors, with a preferential affinity for the D3 receptor subtype. This extended-release formulation is designed for once-daily oral administration, providing a more convenient dosing schedule and more consistent plasma levels compared to immediate-release formulations.
